What can I do about severe dry facial skin?
I have severe dry facial skin. It occurs above and below my eyelids, between my nose and mouth, lower nose, and jaw. Its so severe it flakes. I'm only 21 years old and I've had the problem for about 1 year. It seems to be getting progressively worse though. So far, I've been using warm water and rubbing it off everytime it happens (which is almost every morning), but that is timely, not a permanant fix, and doesn't always work. What am I supposed to do?? Thanks.
Skin and nail problems are almost always a sign that you are not drinking enough water. I know it sounds infantile, but you need to drink ALL 8 glasses of water per day in order to expel the proper amount of wastes from your body. It is better than any medication you may try. Personally, I drink 8 glasses everyday, and if I miss one day, my face will get noticably blotchy. Try it for a week, and see your results. Remember, it must be 8 glasses of WATER, not juice, liquor, crystal, or anything else. You can drink these things in addition to the 8 glasses of water, but after drinking all that water, you may not want to drink anything else.
It's easy: Start with 1 glass in the morning before breakfast and 1 glass after, have 1 glass before lunch and 1 glass after, 1 glass around 3PM before eating a snack and 1 glass after, 1 glass before dinner, and 1 glass after dinner. That's all 8 glasses.
Don't cheat. 1 glass is 8 fluid ounces. This means by the end of the day, you will have drunk a half gallon of water. Also, if you can cut back on greasy/fried food, that will help too. I stopped eating fried foods a few years ago, and when I tried to eat it after I had given it up a few months after I stopped, I got the worse headache, so I CAN'T eat fried food, which is definitely a good thing. Once it's out of your system, it's out
If this still doesn't work, you may want to see a dermatologist, as something else may be wrong with your skin, but if flaking is your only problem, it's almost always a lack of water that is the culprit.

Use a rich moisturizer and have it on hand so that you can put it on when it happens. If you just use warm water to rub it off, the skin's protective barrier is not regenerating itself.
Is it itchy? If so some hydrocortisone cream can help too.
If moisturizing won't help the problem, go to a dermatologist if you can.
Good luck!
